The paintings from the annual Mont De Lancey Acquisitive Art Show are displayed in the Ray Oliver Gallery, along with the Striezel Collection which features hand carved furniture, the work of Franz Striezel a German Woodcarver.

The Striezel Collection

Franz Striezel was a highly regarded German wood carver who emigrated to Australia in 1886 and is represented in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria. Some stunning pieces of his highly prized works including an Australia inspired cocktail cabinet, card table and ornate mirrors were gifted to Mont De Lancey by his granddaughter Mrs Dorothy Adamson for permanent display.

The Mont De Lancey Collection

In 1996 Mont De Lancey established an annual art show to showcase and encourage talented local artists. The Mont De Lancey Collection comprises works acquired by the award of an annual acquisitive cash prize for the work adjudged the best of the annual exhibition and will be complete in 2010. The Collection was officially launched by the Honorable Sir Rupert Hamer in 1995 and is displayed in The Ray Oliver Gallery. The show is held in October and is restricted to artists residing in the Shire of Yarra Ranges.

# 10 - The reminiscences of the life of early settlers are generally associated with heavy toil and hardship, and in these days of comparatively luxurious living one cannot conceive the many difficulties, privations and struggles which the early settlers had to contend with, and only those who have had the practical experience can form an adequate idea of the adversities encountered and endured by the selectors of this now beautiful and prosperous district.
