Jan 8, 2020 - Mar 8, 2020
This Exhibition closed Monday & Tuesdays
It is of stunning needlework and craftsmanship.
The purpose of the Friends in Stitches is to coordinate, encourage and grow the Australian Narrative Embroidery project.
The panels depict Quaker history in Australia since 1770, with the arrival of the first Quaker, Sydney Parkinson, a botanical artist with Captain Cook’s expedition,
A panel begins with the ideas. Then follows research and the creation of a design using images and text. The completed design is drawn onto calico and tacked onto the woollen fabric ready for the stitching of the embroidery. The finished embroideries are mounted and then displayed in Quaker Meetings and other venues around Australia.
