Our members are passionate about wood and its potential to create beautiful items through woodturning. It is the craft of using a wood lathe with hand-held tools to cut a shape. An infinite number of items can be crafted on the lathe. A few examples are bowls, tool handles, table legs, spinning tops, circular chopping boards plus many more.
Located in a purpose built workshop within the grounds of Mont De Lancey Homestead, Eastern Woodturners Inc. meetings are held at 7.00 pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, visitors and new members are most welcome. Members of the club regularly support Mont De Lancey by demonstrating the art of woodturning to visiting school groups and clubs who tour the property. Members are also encouraged to demonstrate and exhibit their work in local shows and events.
Eastern Woodturners Inc consists of members who:
- Foster the improvement of skills in all aspects of woodturning and associated crafts.
- Provide a forum for the discussion, practice and extension of experience in those crafts.
- Encourage members to display the products of their endeavours.
- Foster the adoption of safe working practices in the craft of woodturning.
Two Taster Courses are offered to persons interested in woodturning, generally on the second Saturday morning of the month. Both courses continue for 3 hours approx. with hands on instruction provided. The initial course focuses on introduction to basic tools, safe procedures and spindle turning. An advanced course on additional tools and bowl turning is available.
Persons interested in woodturning are encouraged to attend at least one of the Taster Courses offered by Eastern Woodturners Inc. Upon successful completion of a Taster Course trainees are able to make use of the Club lathes when financial membership is completed.
